Top 10 events in the Chinese trademark field in 2004

I. The State attached high significance to and strengthened the protection on intellectual property;

II. State Council approved to open trademark agency services to Hong Kong and Macao SARs.

III. State Industrial and Commercial Administration and the Ministry of Agriculture issued joint files to co-promote the application of farm product trademark and geographical mark to enhance the farmers' gain;

IV. The Supreme People's Court and Supreme People's Procuratorate jointly promulgated “Interpretation on Several Questions in Relation to the Applicable Laws in Handling Criminal Case that Infringes Intellectual Property”, according to which the convictive criteria for crimes infringing the exclusive right of trademark will be lowered;

V. Annual amount of trademark registration applications in China approached 600,000;

VI. State Industrial and Commercial Administration and Trademark Appraisal Committee determined 153 trademarks as well-known trademarks;

VII. State Industrial and Commercial Administration Trademark Bureau began to publish written ruling on Trademark Opposition;

VII. Beijing & Shanghai Industrial and Commercial Administrations published “Announcement” to protect foreign-related trademarks;

IX. Industrial and commercial administrations in 9 provinces and autonomous regions in the Pan-Zhujiang Delta region signed an agreement to conduct substantial cooperation in the administrative enforcement concerning trademark;

X. The S2 Vertical Project of Sino-Euro Intellectual Property Cooperation was completed successfully.
