eBay Fined EUR 80,000 for Selling Fake LV Perfumes

October 1, 2009
A French court on September 18 ordered the Internet auction and retail company eBay to pay the French luxury brand manufacturer LVMH EUR 80,000 for selling fake LV brand perfumes.

French media reported that LVMH sued eBay for “counterfeiting” because they found eBay had been using some “key words” from four brands of perfumes under LVMH without authorization.

The court’ s ruling confirmed eBay’s “counterfeiting” acts and ordered compensation in the amount of EUR 80,000 to LVMH. In addition, the ruling also pointed out that any further breaches would result in additional penalties of EUR1,000 for each individual violation.

LVMH is a top luxury manufacturer, with more that 500 brands. eBay is the world’s biggest economic business company who claims to have about 84 million active users and the sales volume by its platform is up to tens of billions every year.
