Job Title: Patent Agent
Job Description:
· Meet with inventors to better understand what they have invented;
· Conduct prior art searches, studying and analyze scientific or technical documents, including
previously published patent documents, to evaluate patentability of innovations;
· Write detailed descriptions of inventions in very precise legal terms (patent drafting), which will
form the basis for patents to be granted by patent offices in different parts of the world;
· Suggest modifications or extensions to the definition of the invention, which would allow the
client to claim as broad a monopoly as possible for the new product or process to gain the best
commercial advantage;
· Correspond with foreign attorneys in aiming for patent protection overseas;
· Advise overseas agents on the prosecution of the client's foreign patent applications;
· Advise clients on enforcement of their rights, for instance whether a third party is infringing their
granted patent;
· Deal with patent licence negotiations;
· Deal with assignments of patent and application, i.e. when a patent is sold or
transferred.
Job Title: Trademark Agent
Job Description:
· Research client's proposed trademark, ensuring a similar application has not already been
filed and approved;
· Offer opinion about likelihood of trademark acceptance;
· Prepare trademark application for client;
· File application with Trademark Office;
· Follow up on rejected trademark applications;
· Correspond with foreign attorneys in aiming for trademark protection overseas;
· Advising overseas agents on the prosecution of the client's foreign trademark applications.
