Unitalen Holds IP Lecture in RIPP Successfully
On July 26, an IP lecture jointly held by Sinopec Corp. and Unitalen Attorneys at Law attracted more than 80 experts, professors, and project managers in a training building of the Research Institute of Petroleum Processing (RIPP). The lecture was aimed at consummating and upgrading Sinopec’s IP strategies.

As a large–scale R&D institution, RIPP boasts of solid capacity for R&D. So far 783 patent applications have been filed in China, half of them being granted. RIPP has attached great importance to IP exploitation and protection, which is one of the sustainable development strategies of RIPP.

As one of the largest, most prestigious and professional IP agents in China, Unitalen has profound advantages with its knowledgeable and authoritative experts in the IP field. The two speakers at the lecture are both highly experienced experts in the IP field. Ms. Li Liqiu, the speaker in Corporate Intellectual Property Strategies, has worked as an in-house IP counsel at Huawei Technology Co. Ltd and has taken part in international IP negotiations multiple times. Mr. Zu Kan, the speaker of Japanese Corporate Patent Strategies, has studied overseas, and has abundant international and domestic IP experience. He has conducted in-depth research in the area of IPR.

RIPP professors and scholars were absorbed in the presentations during the lecture. In the following Q&A Session, the vibrant questions led the attendees to the lecture’s climax.

Introduction of the Speakers:

·Li Liqiu – Attorney, Patent Agent

Prior to joining Unitalen, Ms. Li served eight years as an in-house intellectual property counsel at Huawei Technology Co. Ltd and Shenzhen OUR International Science and Technology Development Co. Ltd. She was also the IPR Department Director in these two corporations. Her responsibilities included providing legal advice at patent license negotiations with world-famous telecom companies and providing assistance to the Chinese Ministry of Information Industry in handling related patent problems. She has been analyzing IPR policies of telecom standardization organizations and the related essential patent problem since 1998. She has drafted a Chinese IP Policy for the organization, CWTS IP Stipulations for China Wireless Telecommunication Standard Group of the Chinese Ministry of Information Industry. She has also taken part in IP license negotiations with foreign telecommunication companies, such as Ericsson, Nokia and Alcatel in Sweden, Finland and France, and has been responsible for the corresponding work during the respective negotiation process.

Lastly, Ms. Li was a visiting attorney at Becker & Poliakoff, P.A. in Florida, U.S.A. from October 2002 to March 2003.
