China enforced 3G Standard 9 giants founded Mobile Multimedia Technology Alliance
On October 21, nine most influential institutions or enterprises in China: China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom, China Netcom, China Putian, Huawei, Zhongxing, and Xingwei co-announced the foundation of Mobile Multimedia Technology Alliance (MMTA).

According to report, the administrative department of MMTA is the Ministry of Information Industry. The purpose of this alliance is to accelerate technical innovation, standard maturation, and popularization of application for new mobile multimedia technology.

According to Mr. Lou Qinjian, the Deputy Minister of Information Industry, MMTA will be an open technology alliance that accepts industrial members around the world, and will establish cooperative relations with international standard organization. It will, on the one hand, increase innovation and accumulation of intellectual property among enterprises in China and, on the other hand, promote application and popularization of standards, and finally promote raise of international status of Chinese enterprises and formation of industrial competitive competence.

The 9 initiators of MMTA respectively represent research institutions, service providers, manufacturers of terminal and network equipments, and providers of chip technology. They form a complete bio chain of mobile telecom industry.

Managing Director of MMTA Mr. Jiang Lintao said that: “the purpose of the alliance is to restructure various forces in the industrial chain of mobile multimedia telecom, promote innovation and standardization of network, terminal, and application; provide a fair and reasonable platform for intellectual property management, enhance domestic and international cooperation, and promote development of new technology and new business of mobile multimedia technology; define technological standards for mobile multimedia terminal and its applications; promote business research and industrialization.
