China’s International PCT Application Ranked No. 6

On February 4, Tian Lipu, Commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office, said at the State Intellectual Property Conference that the 2008 PCT application totals reached an historical milestone with more than 6,000 applications. China has thus exceeded Britain and now ranks No.6 in the world.

According to WIPO’s statistics, the first country on the PCT application ranking system is the US, followed by Japan, Germany, South Korea, France, China, Britain, Holland, Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, Italy, Finland, Australia and Israel.

With 6,089 PCT applications, China is up by 11.9% and became the fastest growing country for such applications. Although China has ranked No. 6, according to the company applicant amount, China has the highest number of applications from Chinese companies.
